Although construction of the new Greene County high school and career academy is still behind the original schedule due to the poor weather during the fall, the two-week stretch of beautiful weather at the end of November and the beginning of December proved to be a big help. A significant amount of work completed including two concrete pours.
According to school superintendent Tim Christensen, extensive work is taking place in the career academy with electrical service and plumbing roughed in and duct work being hung. A majority of the windows have been installed. Metal stud walls are being built and sheetrock will begin going up in January.
The roof is almost finished on the academic wing, which will allow additional work to be started inside that area. Crews are also in the process of roofing the gymnasium.
All but two of the precast concrete panels for the auditorium have been set and roof trusses for the auditorium are going up along with the catwalk for the auditorium. In the next two weeks the last footings for the building will be dug. These footings will be on the south side of the auditorium and will be for the band and vocal classrooms. Precast panels for these walls will be set in early January.
Owner’s representative Sam Harding will provide a detailed progress report on construction at a work session preceding the school board meeting Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the administrative building at 204 W. Madison St in Jefferson. The work session will begin at 5:15. All are welcome to attend.
